Sign of the times: seen on a U.S. mail box in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
In this photo, taken on a rainy Sunday afternoon, Larry David, the quintessential kvetch, looks uncharacteristically sad and serious, – not surprising at a time when Jews around the world are feeling vulnerable, angry, insecure and confused by a level of Jew-hatred that seemed unimaginable before October 7.
Those raindrops look a lot like tears…
For a sobering, if not grim, deep-dive analysis tracking the highlights of how American Jews have thrived in the last century and looking towards where we’re headed, I recommend Franklin Foer’s lead story in the current issue of The Atlantic: “The Golden Age of American Jews Is Ending.”
(Exactly four years ago this week, The Atlantic published an essay I wrote on the subject: “Is It Still Safe to be a Jew in America?” )
The prognosis: As Larry might say, is “pretty, pretty, pretty bad.”
Yes; we all feel pretty unsettled now...
Can't get past the paywall in Atlantic.
