My first sukkah (I was teenager) was designed/built by my father -- of masonite pegboard; it withstood a windstorm, years later, when many in town did not.

True story (abbreviated, told to me by someone who knew the family): Catholic woman converts to Judaism, her teen-aged children choose not to; her daughter later marries a nice Catholic boy & they move into Brooklyn (near his job) -- in 1973. Daughter calls mom hysterical -- Ma, you gotta come save us; the Arabs are really serious; this is not confined to the Middle East -- all the Jews here are building bomb shelters...
