Ted Comet, who died today in his 101st year, was an iconic figure in American Jewish life, beloved for his visionary leadership and warm, outgoing personality.
Thank you, Gary, for writing about someone seeking to do good and lead a meaningful life. I particularly liked this text:
What does it take to live a meaningful life? I believe it’s possible for any one of us to make a difference in other people’s lives. I get inspiration from working with people who seek to do good. That’s a power we should use to make the world a better place.”
Well said and well deserved. His funeral was am extraordinary outpouring of love, respect and appreciation of his working the Jewish Community. As a young law student getting involved in the Jewish Cmmunity I as sent to Feeration by UJA,then separate, to learn about the community and how to get involved from an active professional. That is how I met Ted Comet 60 years ago. A few years later ,involved ,I moved to the West Side and oined The Jewish Center where Ted davned. We became good friends and I ,a constant pupil of his leadership. He will be missed by so many and the community at large.
