I am curious about whether you asked David Schizer about Katherine Franke and her departure from Columbia Law School (which I am happy about).

And whether you discussed the fact that "Professor" Joseph Massad is teaching a course on Zionism this semester even though Massad has advocated for Israel’s destruction, praised terrorism against Israeli Jews, blamed Jews for antisemitism, denied the Jewish people’s connection to the Land of Israel, and praised the terrorist group Hamas’s massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023 as "awesome" and "astounding."

It’s just heartbreaking to watch what these young people and Jewish professors are enduring. This would not have been tolerated when I went to Yale in 1996

Fascinating how a general ideological stance has turned into ad hominem action. Thinking of this through the lens of what we all went through 20 years ago, Gary, I'd love to have the chance to learn (or interview you on) how your own thinking has changed. Meaning, from that first Jewish Week article Liel wrote where you took one stance, until today when your stance has shifted. Would be fascinating to understand what changed for you and how it impacted your general process.

Too much handwringing; too much talking about the wrong subjects. Typical useless Talmudic discussion about free speech that has no impact on the actual problem; the safety of Jewish students and the inaction is the administration.

Columbia has many alumna who can protest with their wallets and their children. No donations, and no enrollment. Protest against tax exemptions for universities and the use of masks for protesters. Demand security for Jewish students, at every class about Israel/Judaism, at every protest.

Debating whether or not "intifada" is a violent word (it certainly is here in Israel,) is a waste of time. The protesters are laughing at these debates over vocabulary while continuing to menace because there are no real consequences.

I'm ashamed of Columbia, my alma mater, but more ashamed of our tepid responses. We Jews have yet to realize that these institutions have never really wanted us, that they tolerated us while we donated, but that they discovered the sudden need to defend free speech when it came to this minority group only.

Enough...

By the way, the Technion and Hebrew University are fine institutions. Ironically, Muslims, Jews, Christians, etc. sit in classes together, earning degrees for a fraction of the cost of a semester at Columbia.
